Our volunteers are available to help individuals and families who require translation or guidance when accessing public services – such as doctors and hospital visits, local government services or even reporting crime.

This service is confidential and volunteers are vetted with DBS (previously CRB) checks.

If you or someone you know would like to use this service please contact us and we will arrange suitable support.

We can source translators in a variety of Chinese languages:

  • 普通话 / 国乐
Mandarin – widely spoken across China, Taiwan and Singapore. Many Chinese people are bi-lingual and can understand to varying degrees.
  • 广东话 / 白話
Cantonese  – spoken mainly in Guangdong, Guangxi, Hong Kong, Macau.
  • 福建话
Fujianese or Hokkien – spoken mainly in Fujian and Taiwan.
  • 客家话
Hakka – spoken in Guangdong, Fujian and Taiwan.

For anyone seeking support for someone of Chinese heritage who requires translation services, please be aware there are numerous Chinese languages and this not an exhaustive list, however the languages listed above are commonly found in Chinese communities around Lancashire. Also note there are also two prominent forms of written Chinese – Simplified and Traditional – which can affect the efficacy of translation.
